Charles Church

"The building of Charles Street Church started in 1640 after Charles I gave permission for another parish to be created. Construction was suspended during the Civil War and completed in 1657. The church was dedicated to King Charles the Martyr in 1665. Once one of the finest post-Reformation Gothic churches in the country, Charles Church was gutted in the blitz of the Second World War; its ruins were retained as a memorial to Plymouth's war dead."

A carcaça desta igreja é um dos meus lugares favoritos aqui em Plymouth. Depois que a cidade foi terrivelmente bombardeada pelos nazistas, os restos da construção foram preservados e hoje é um memorial. Acho incrivelmente bonito e ao mesmo tempo tão estranho, porque fica bem no meio de uma rotatória movimentada, ao lado de um shopping center moderno.
